No probs es. It is just that the visual contrasts differ markedly with the filter used.

The bottom line. No snow or ice at Meridiani or Gusev other than microns of frost cover depositing at night as the temperature drops to 'brisk' levels.

Brian,

I do not think you appreciate views re108,re109,re110.

The cover appears to be solid, and there is no way I can say that it is just microns thick.

Like the snow on Earth, it might come from cloud, which on Mars might be small - but small patch of snow still could be probuced.

The bottom line is, we still know very little, and the main reason is - mission is totally lacking follow up.

With just suiperficial observations, the things cannot be settled.

Pure as Wind Driven Snow

This is a snow all right, it is moved by the wind, as opposed to frost on the surface!

Sublimating alright, was the spring/coil always partially buried?

Just 1 o'clock of centre is a mini crater shape that has formed by Sol 113 and has got the number 5 in middle or is it a little worm Shocked

super 3D of Mars number 5:

It is on the side of the hole - not the bottom, so I would guess it was buried in the ice. For how long who knows? What it is who knows?

And since NASA doesn't know what it is, then it does not exist. Stop looking at it - right NOW!

More sol 113 under the lander:

What is notable about this 3D is the RAC camera was positioned so a full frame of 3D could be created. Well done.

Er, the line of ice(?) on the far right strut seems longer.

Some of the shadowy patterns on the ice may be real - most likely - perhaps? Only the holder of the 12 bit keys knows for sure.

OOOOFFF!!!
Hort, you knocked the wind out of me!
Regarding Replies 124 and 126...What the....
Are there other stages/images showing the formation of the 5? Looks kinda wormy...

Why did the rims of the ice hole expand? It was merely a hole before but not it looks like a little impact crater.

I meant to say: It was merely a hole before but "NOW" it looks like a little impact crater.
I wonder if the 5 represents a structure formed by a small vein/hole venting gas into the larger hole. This freezing/condensing gas on the wall of the hole might form a structure like this over time. Then again, maybe it's a Martian ice worm, I dunno.

Hopefully if we do not have any more images of the formation of the 5... we might see NASA watching it no to see future changes. The mystery of the 5!!!

It actually looks as if the hole has filled in somewhat. Small particles rolled in?

Brian, you might be right...

I just thought of something looking at Hort's Reply 124 again. The 5 might actually be the result of a small dust landslide. The upgradient accumulating dust may have shifted and flowed downhill, depositing the unusual 5 in the hole.

Hort's Reply 126 sure looks like icy material and dust accumulating at a small subsurface vent though.

Horton,
did you make a 3D image of the original image of the hole (Reply 124, Sol44)?
I thought that you did.
Where might I find it if you indeed created it?

rpage, yuo can find all my 3D images under the lander by searching my Flickr pictures for the tags: under lander 3D

Here is the results.

Thanks for the 3D Hort.

Not sure if a minute fall of material into the hole would create this "s" shape and if it is something that has been exposed due to sublimation then there is a lot more of it yet to be exposed.

Yeah so why don't NASA talk about it?

Look at the border between sant and snow
link to 3D of packed snow patch, from Opportunuty

So, do you still think that someone has white painted the ground over there?

extrasense,

That patch of dust has be visible on the dunes in this area of Victoria for years. There is a moisture source in this area but I have not been able to find it.

patch of dust?

Did you see that the edge is raised on the down right of the picture?

If it where dust, how could the edge be so sharp?

A white dust would be most unusual too.

I mean, you are stretching credibility with such claim far too thin Razz Razz Razz

Pheonix is going to move the rock called Headless to see if the Ice layer underneath is nearer to the surface there are theories that the rock may act as a medium to attract moisture from the atmosphere.

So, now they have seen snowfall!

How that can be? after the geniuses have proven it is impossible ?
