That squirrel rock is a very odd thing ES.

Almost like a joke.

I think I'm going crazy. When I look at that stereo pair of images in Reply 3 of our little gorilla friend, I see the distinct shape of a stick figured person on its side with what looks like something held over its head. I went back to my saved picture from that Sol, but my picture is really fuzzy. Still, there are some of the strangest looking rocks I've ever seen on Mars assembled in that picture. That picture had our own little Mars Nessie in it as well as a pyramid kind of rock and numerous odd bodkins. I think I've been looking at stereo images one too many times! Smile

It is odd how this particular formation came up more than once - too bad there weren't more, then we'd have a Mars version of those Easter Island heads.

mann,

I have spotted it right before April 1,2004 and was suspecting it is a joke to be announced on fool's day.

Sorry for response delayed, I did not visit this forum for awhile.

The site to look at is The Proof

As of today, most of the out of hand claims about impossibility of development of life on Mars, have had fallen.

Instead, the possibility of acceletated development of the Life on Mars 3 billon years ago become a mainstream opinion.

Which must force to reevaluate also the observations that show, that it has resulted in development of Civilization.

Thanks, extra sense. I see you've found a few more interesting objects. I've added a link to your website on the youtube video information area.

Do you still have the one with the elephant trunk looking projection coming out of the rock?

Hi, dbn,

your videos are great job, thanks.

I have a lot of new images, as a did not update the site for a while - since nobody apparently have been paying attention.

I did remove some images that were not sure thing, including the elephant. It is from Spirit pancam, sol 087, 2P134095338EFF2300P2368L7M1
If you can brighten the image, I think it would be impressive to have video of martian head at Spirit navcam,

Also, there would be intresting to make a movie like you do about Construction related things - I have a number or provoking images and could give you where they are.

Best,
es

Thanks!

I pulled your images. You actually had another image with a snake-like projection coming out of it, or out of the ground nearby that looked like the shape of an elephant trunk. The projection came out a long way away from the rest of the object.

Also, I like the head one especially since it appears to be composed of two different types of material - part of it is light and the other part is dark.

I would love to see all of the construction related images for a possible video!

Thanks.

hi, dbn,

to appreciate many of the images, it is necessary to look them up in stereo.

Did you try to do a movie from anaglyph, and/or also varying the brightness, so that different details are exposed?

That is a very good idea for those of us who want more detail!

Yes, I've done a couple of movies using anaglyphs. And they look fine on my computer, but unfortunately, when uploaded to youtube, they lose too much quality to have any value. I just put one up last week, but it looked so bad, I immediately removed it.

If I try again, I may try adjusting contrast on the original image to see if the 3d can survive that way because it's a really neat effect, particularly for looking at the larger terrain.

As for varying brightness to expose details, maybe I should do more of that. I have done a lot of short clips for myself to study, but have only uploaded one so far.

There is a bit of it on the Martian mermaid video, which begins at the 1:57 mark:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcDRJlHdJKM

However, that bit, is not typical of most of the similar clips I have done with brigtness varying over the frames, as other effects are added to it as well, and it's not a particularly good demonstration of what can be done with this effect.

dbn,

I did find it is hard sometimes to make anagliph that is good all over the original picture, but workable one can be produced of the particular area of interest.
It would be interesting to see what can be achieved by using different anaglyphs, as appropriate, when focus moves around.

best wishes,

es

hi, dbn,

could you try as a base for a movie, a couple of the anaglyphs from marslife site, to see if stereo movie can be made successfully? If so, you could combine stereo and regular shots/segments in a movie.

es

es, here's an anaglyph from your site, turned into a youtube movie.

I tried something different this time using a different compression codec.

This one at least seems to retain its 3d quality, which I have had trouble with on others I have uploaded, but as you can see a huge amount of quality detail has been lost. It looks great on my computer after compression and prior to the upload, but youtube recompresses it once it is uploaded and converts it to a different type of movie file, where sometimes details are lost. So, it doesn't look nearly as good as it should.

What do you think?

hi, dbn,

The stereo movie is good, but your original highlighting technique is doing great job - without those pesky glasses.

So, I like both Wink
