A day early, I was given the opportunity to roll off my lander - I took it! I am now sitting on the surface of Mars, just like my sister Spirit. I have done a bit of science already - confirming that the soil here contains hematite, a mineral that my commanders sent me here to find. So my work here is done, I am just gonna take off on a baja over the Martian dunes and tear up some red soil! Just kidding Laughing . Next up for me is too examine the soil by my wheels in more detail.

Great blog and site layout. The mars rover raw images have been taking a while to get posted on the NASA site, which is annoying. I realize the data link is slow, and with two rovers competing for the DSN with other spacecraft and agencies, images take a while to get here, but here they are at day 8 with the Opportunity mission and day 5 photos are the latest available. How frustrating! It makes me wonder if they are culling the photos of the little green men and ufo's before the public gets a peek.

I read that they are getting image data five times the rate of what they expected. To be fair regarding what gets posted etc, it is reality that it is scientific reasons they are up there and not sight seeing. Let's get the science done so we can get humans there as soon as possible.
