yes, I saw the legos used as opportunity bolts in a colorized picture version by Elija. I thought it was a great idea for NASA's to hook school age kids. Plus it is fun and provides a color sheme (red, yellow, blue lego) |

Really. three legos really are on the rover craft and visible when it takes pictures of itself. They do not stand out in the black and white pictures but they are used as bolt heads for one of the visual calibrators. Sneaky. |

Does anyone know if they actually used lego on the thing? I see something that looks a lot like the lego I grew up with.
Have a look at

The legos are on the landing bases of both rovers and each hold a Mars DVD. There was a "send your name to Mars" contest where you could have your name place on the DVD and you get a certificate. Here's the link.

Here is another link showing the and legos.

No-- the lego brick on the landers are not real LEGOs, they would not survive the extreme conditions of reentry.
Here is a quote:
"The DVD assembly’s base, the simulated LEGO bricks, and the central oval are made of machined and anodized aluminum. The aluminum parts are separated from the silica glass DVD with Delrin pads. Delrin is an inflexible polymer that is very tough and heat resistant."
