[Comet Holmes not typical, described as "peculiar" in many ways]

NASA's Spitzer Gets Sneak Peek Inside Comet Holmes 10.13.08

Observations taken of the comet after the explosion by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope deepen the mystery, showing oddly behaving streamers in the shell of dust surrounding the nucleus of the comet. The data also offer a rare look at the material liberated from within the nucleus, and confirm previous findings from NASA's Stardust and Deep Impact missions ... cont. at link above.

This comet [first appears] in history in early November 1892. It immediately preceded what was considered at that time, the worst economic depression ever to strike the United States. [Panic of 1893]

Caused by a [railroad] building bubble, many scholars have interpreted [The Wizard of OZ,] the abbreviation for "ounce," as an allegory or metaphor for the political, economic and social events of [America] of the 1890s.

Now I have no idea the social implications but a great storm is brewing in central Hudson Bay. Modified Artic air will dig south and East in the US on Sunday. Snow squalls will develop with NNW winds 20-30 gust to 45. Some electric display in the form of lightning with super lapse rate over warm waters in squalls.

Moisture will end up as far south as the high country of North Carolina with snow showers on gusty winds Monday night. Snow showers will persist in the central Appalachians Western Pa. and New York. Freeze warnings will be issued for central Georgia and SC.

Good stuff.

That was an impressive artic intrusion. The folks in England saw snow in Ireland and hail in England. Snow was up to 2 feet in the Catskills of New York state.

Now lets look forward. That’s what the weather types do. A major storm will form over the Midwest and move into the great lakes in the next 3 to 5 days. High pressure will try and fill warm water vortex with cyclogenisis November 6-10th.

Low pressure with Gail force winds. Rain changing to freezing rain to snow. Winds increasing to 50 kts gust to 70.

I love this crap
