It's Lilah who is psychiatrically diagnosable, terrifying, and tragic. The Dictator knows exactly what this means.

I can't believe it...

The mentioned board has become an official project of the Planetary Society.

And they're not changing rules because of it.

I've recently concluded that UMSF cannot be the face of the Space Community. Not at all... And the Planetary Society surprised me nastily when they said that building a HLV shouldn't be a priority now.

Years ago I thought about becoming a member of TPS... Just these two occasions made the goal impossible.

Svetoslav Alexandrov>>>

I was a card carrying member from the beginning when the late Carl Sagan and Bruce Murry founded it in 1980. I left the membership in 1991 when they were advocating and soliciting funds to go to Mars. At that time, well before the internet and today's real live up-to-date space adventures, I took that as coo-coo nonsense and canceled my subscription. [frankly speaking, I still do] For the membership subscription I received their bi-monthly or monthly or every 6 months, forget now, newsletter. Honestly, it was probably the best update for space stuff around, besides 'Astronomy' and 'Sky and Telescope' of which I also received monthly, but today, in my mind its a little too much circus silliness in its manner of displaying anything space. I certainly don't need that site for info. There are a lot more knowledgeable and professional sites to go to, like, NASA itself. Speculation from monotonous folks in need of their support for all sorts of childless duhhh I don't need from PS, for I can read SF like they can and make up my own mind and discern what I want to from it without prejudice or face-slapping from little self-centered, insecure individuals of despots or gangs.

I do not know anything at all about that UMSF site you mentioned in your 143 for I have never been on it so I consider PS picked up nothing more than the same rash of space-hype so-so promoters as itself. Don't worry about them. Its just a little sounding board membership club with regimented chest beaters trying to out-due each other.

While on the other hand, this blog of Mark's 'Mars Rover Blog' is light years ahead of any of them. Its strongly independent, self-guided with a real enthusiastic group of players promoting thought! No hype to clog your thoughts here either.

Now wouldn't you want to be on a rocket-ship to the stars like this one?

My prediction is that within a few months, as the UMSF membership ranks swell from the Planetary Society members, you'll start seeing a lot of "unacceptable" posts, then a lot of lock-outs, then a major policy change. We'll see.

I daresay that dx has teh place pegged.

S/he who laughs last laughs best. Dictator's comments are going into the book I'm writing about the completely unscientific actions of certain people promoting their own agendas. You're going to make me some bucks, Dick!

Bill and dx,
I tend to agree. But I have no personal animosity towards Doug Ellison. He runs a well presented blog and no-one can say that he has not made the rules perfectly clear. Having said that I am reminded that when Opportunity reached Endurance, Doug Ellison stated with great confidence that she would never enter the crater. No big deal, we all make mistakes, but perhaps he would be well served by engaging in introspection from time. Wink

Don't know. If he really wrote that message to Banned, it sounds like something's a bit off there. That's just plain mean and sounds like a bully.

I have something to offer - as we already know, the Dictator Doug is working at JPL.

Dont'sha believe me? Be checkin' da twitter accounts.

If you, Banned til 2037 feel offended by the person Douglas Ellison (who's European) and you're paying taxes in the USA, I guess you can do something so people like him won't be involved in YOUR space program.

Hey Banned,

If you are an American taxpayer, I guess Doug is putting some of your money in his pocket every payday. Very Happy

No animosity, either, but it has seemed to me for years that UMSF is a self-promotional springboard for some admin-types, and sure enough, they are passing the hat over there now for funding.

I have been a member of UMSF for just over two years now. I was attracted to the forum by the excellent images and the apparent involvement of space scientists on the site. Yesterday, I was attacked by Doug for daring to speculate on the reasons behind the failure of the Akatsuki Venus probe. No doubt Doug will probably read my comments here and promptly ban me. Rolling Eyes

I enjoy discusion of space exploration but will not accept being bullied into silence on things that the admins of UMSF deem to know best. If UMSF keep up this approach, they will haemmorage members and posters.

Oh and another thing, the late, great Carl Sagan would be banned on UMSF after perhaps 5 posts for having the cheek to challenge sacred cows on that forum.

You seemed to have been shut out of any personal views about the world around you...welcome here to the MPB and be free to associate in ANY conversation posted or even start your own thread! Now how reasonable is that? There are NO boggy-mans here.

Thanks dx,

I've actually been on this forum quite a few times before and indeed started up a thread or two a couple of years back. This is a great forum - keep up the good work. Smile

It's the bullying and climate of regimented fear on UMSF that I cannot accept. It is not so much an internet discussion board but rather a grouping of a relatively small number of regular posters deemed acceptable/worthy by Mr Ellison to comment on the threads.

Anyone else appears to be sidelined, dismissed or attacked and prevented from any meanijgful discussion of topics. That does not make a healthy inyernet forum. The Planetary Society should think very carefully about their endorsement of UMSF.

It's one thing to have strict rules and posting guidelines - as a moderator on an social web message board in Ireland, I understand the rationale behind that - but quite another to treat posters with hostility, nastiness and downright contempt.

JK. I actually decided to terminate my membership of the Planetary Society and no longer contribute to their special projects. I made this decision based on their endorsement of Obama’s gutting of the space program and their alliance with UMSF.

But I am sure that Doug contributed significant funding to the UMSF passed around hat. Or at least a percentage of the $US re-directed from the space program to himself.

Well, it appears that Mr Ellison checked up on this very thread to track me down and then ask was I the person who posted as JK.

And I told him that yes, indeed it was I.

I have nothing to hide or apologise for. I have requested that my UMSF account be closed with immediate effect. Therefore, I leave UMSF with my held held high and not someone to be abused further before being summarily banned.

Ah, speak of the devil!

Very Happy

Apparently the behaviour of the dictator (D. Ellison which I will call D-bag for short) is betraying him Very Happy Looks like he got temporarily banned from BAUT forum, another forum because of his iconic rude behaviour.

I don't know how the Planetary society accepted the big web project of D-Bag. And I have no idea how D-Bag started working at NASA. I guess it's a shame for both NASA and TPS.

Yes - I got a suspension at BAUT because I've not tuned in to what the mods their consider 'rude'.

Their forum, their rules, and I do my best to follow them. I've crossed the line and got a suspension because of it. I have no problem with that whatsoever.

The moment the suspension is lifted, I'll speak to the mods and figure out where I went wrong, how, and adjust how I've interpreted their rules. I will also thank them for helping me figure it out and remember to think before posting a little more, especially in heated debates.

The excellent quality of BAUT is a symptom of the quality of the admin and mod team - and I have no problem whatsoever in being a victim of the rules if it helps makes the place better.

What I won't be doing is finding a different forum to bitch and moan about them, call them names and lie about what's happened.
