I suggest that the signal to noise ratio in the Open Mars Forum is getting rather high.

Can I suggest threads such as "They are jerking us around!", "Is this near enough for some cataracted eyes?", "I really can't explain this one", "A profane question", "Must be TREES (shadowing)" and a few others really belong in ATM.

Thanks,

Andy G

As the object discussed in "Is this near enough for some cataracted eyes?" is likely to be a piece of the rover, I think he has to stay here.
And I'm speaking of something everyone can clearly see. Not about tales whose identification may be subjective.
I speak of a tubular form only.

Above all, I don't understand why "A Profane question" should be moved to ATM sub-forums, as in it no one ever expressed any ATMed opionion.
You should read threads I start before complaining about them.

"Must be trees" thread is an old one.
Is your freshly obtained law retroactive now? Confused
Ridiculous.

Favonio, I read all threads (and most links given on threads).

My request to the list administrator in #1 above was that there are clearly threads launched in the Open Mars section that don't belong there. Some threads evolve (like the two-way between yourself and Bill in APQ) to a state which doesn't belong there. Now, maybe it's my reading of it, but the Open Mars section oughtn't be a permanent catch-all for any number of half-baked (and often nonsensical) thoughts from the fringe element of this blog's membership. Or am I wrong?

The "A profane question" thread once again raises the issue of the true colour of Mars. It's been asked and, more importantly, answered here before. I'll expand on this, because it clearly upsets you so much.

In brief, there are no "true RGB" filters in existance. None that exactly mimic the colour receptors of the human eye. The ambient lighting on Mars is not the same as that on Earth. The perception of colour by humans is an extremely complicated process - much of it science, some of it art.

Here on this blog Hort has done some wonderful images that, to my mind, approximate what Mars might well look like if we were standing there. But we don't stand there, and to simply assume that a colour camera developed and designed for use on the Earth would accurately reproduce scenes if it were on Mars as the eye would see them neglects many elements of human colour perception. (Which is fair enough - it's an easy mistake to make.)

To have a go at Steve Squyres, as Bill seemingly does in that thread, suggesting that he is perhaps witholding information and/or simply chanting some JPL mantra moves the thread, to my mind, into an Against The Mainstream topic.

Hence my request. It's up to FMR to take a view. Do you have a problem with that?

Andy, can you please provide a quote by me or Bill from APQ thread, in which we state something clearly going against NASA in an ATM way?

Bill just pointed out that as "true colors" doesn't exist FOR SURE, Steve Squryes words aren't neither that right nor that professional.

suggesting that he is perhaps witholding information and/or simply chanting some JPL mantra

Here comes your error. Bill may even think exactly what you say, but he never says such things.
My opinion is that you infer a bit too much from posts.

He just criticized Squyres' [frankly objectable] sureness about colour of berries.

Hence my request. It's up to FMR to take a view. Do you have a problem with that?

What a silly question.
A: Of course, since I deem it an obviously wrong request.

This thread belongs in the Feedback forum. That said - welcome to the latter day Mars Forum - a bunch of gems stuck waist deep in crap.

There's plenty to talk about, but why spend time discussing Squyre's podcast series when we can debate what kind of lifeforms Sojourner discovered (and NASA is covering up)?

Back to the other forum... I see an interesting thread on the new announced ExoMars mission...

You behave just like a kid.
In every sentence of your post, especially the last one.

"My kindergarten is better! Come to me everyone!"

Never seen such things. I expected to meet much more adult people joining a Mars discussion forum.

when we can debate what kind of lifeforms Sojourner discovered (and NASA is covering up)?

No one ever said that last thing. In every case you can't do without inventing your personal story, can you?

Goodbye.

Right... the "other forum" is my forum now - despite the fact that I've never posted there and I am not associated with it.

Merely pointing out that while this forum seems to be suffocating for content outside of a few threads on the main page and in the geology forum, other forum(s) on the net dedicated to the Mars exploration program seem to have no problems finding relevant topics to discuss.

As for "childish behavior", care to point me to a model of adult behavior that I can model my tone after? Should I be emulating your posting style?

And why do the ATM forum regulars keep coming back to the forum they were banished from?

Because there is nothing of interest happening in the ATM forum, except perhaps the entertainment value of watching troll contests such as the ES -vs- Favonio cat fight.
