This is the best I could do without the original
The strangest thing I see is the dark rock attached to the top right. How does this happen??

FMR,

My best guess it is a plant, the dark part on the left is a stalk.

At least at this forum we can call a spade a spade Laughing

The resolution is pretty low. To me, it looks like the dark rock is simply sitting behind the larger rock. A second view would likely clear it up.

I agree with Greg. I think we are seeing three main rocks: one small, black one in front; the larger light-coloured one in the middle; and another angular black rock behind.

This is a common theme in Gusev, whatever this organism is. There are more of these if you look carefully, this just happens to be a very large one. You'll often see these cat tail looking things sticking up on one side of the rock, and something else creepy sticking out on the opposite side. It's very real, and very weird, whatever "it" is.

Hey Gingle
"How does a rock get attached to another rock..? You really don't think this can happen in a way that doesn't require plants or life of any kind..? Why did Mark Carey think you'd make a good moderator again (oh wait, no one has ever given any sort of explanation)..?"

Why the heck are you picking on me?

As usual, rocks are clueless.
No brains, no politeness, just plain dust where head must have been.

The horizontal bright part of the object is attached to the vertical black part of it.

That is all. And your deranged shrieks does not change that. Mars ignores nitwitssss.

This is why you should always post one of the original images, so people can search for right frame images, navcam frames, and frames from nearby sols to get a better idea of the rocks 3D arrangement.

The rock doesn't have to 'get attached' to the other rock at all. Perhaps it is one rock with different coloration, and it was once embedded in something soft that has since eroded away. Perhaps it is multiple rocks and this particular angle just makes them look like they are stuck together. Perhaps they are indeed multiple rocks cemented by something, all of which is once again harder than whatever eroded away around it. Perhaps it is ejecta from a meteor hit.

Is it really such a mystery as to "How does this happen??"? Do you just want to hear the same answers over and over and over again?

G,
if ignorance were an excuse, you would be off the hook. "Perhaps" means that you do not know. So far so good. So, listen to those who know!

Rocks was maintaining, that everything might be just an accident. Now you are saying that this particular formation could not exist but for life. Get your cows in a row, would you?

You need a few more laughing faces between the 'e' and the 's' before I REALLY get it.

Do you get money every time somebody replies to one of your useless posts? Here's another $.03.. spend it wisely.

I think this is a mix of two whitish rocks, a shadow on the ground and some weird black thing sticking out of the top of one of the whitish rocks.
I don't understand what G is upset about. I thought the whole idea of these forums is to discuss intersting things about Mars. I must be missing something.

It could be a bit of lava (ejected from a volcano) that impacted the rock before it had time to cool.

Richard, don't you recognize my words?
Now try to understand how I felt everytime I asked a simple question (that is indeed a simple question) but every idiot in here thought I was claiming something.

I ask because I just want to know how some is possible; my quesitons are not rethorical or ironic.
But human stupidity must manifest itself over and over again trough the most pathetic and lost individuals.
