Every time I have a look at this site the level of stupidity has increased. At one stage sensible people posted. I can understand why they left.

Mario, some of our esteemed contributors didn't just "leave," they passed away, so your comment leaves a bad taste.

As John Stuart Mill observed, the proper remedy for bad speech is good speech---not silence and not insults.

I'm still alive. And have the initials FRAS after my name for a few years now. I have always been passionate about Mars and especially when those who have now passed were here I enjoyed the discussions.
I have heard from the horses mouth from those in charge of various Mars missions what we have found and what we think might be worth investigating. I can tell you it's a slow process but it will ramp up in the decades to come. Maybe I will expire in that time but I hope to be around to see humans on the planet. There are many things we know already and a sample return mission will help confirm our theories. Which samples to cache is a challenge of its own. Certain technology needs inventing. Private companies in Space will also push hard to get humans there but little or no science will arise from that. It's good too hear some of you are still here. Be very patient it's follow the water step stages. We will get there life past or present will be found eventually.

Re reply 324, "I can tell you it's a slow process but it will ramp up in the decades to come."
I suspect the reason why it's a slow process is because scientists heatedly debated on the ALH84001 meteorite and the no-life camp is on the mainstream.

The search for life on Mars is a never-ending game. One strip teaser after another.

Re reply 327, some people can always find reasons not to accept past life on Mars. Most people do not accept ooids on Mars.

NASA set the agenda and no scientist dared to discover past life on Mars. NASA can be bureaucratic. Sometimes absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The making of illusion is our first step in understanding. The power of the mind allows us to make illusions. All we need do is "believe it." This makes the recognition of this power mandatory. Otherwise we can see rodents, man-made objects, pyiramids and... Wait for it... "chicken bones." Theory is not illusion because it proclaims no process that lacks evidence. Then you will learn reality is way more cool than any illusion.

Strictly speaking man is a term for humans on earth. We have seen no men on Mars. If Mars had developed consciousness in an advanced life form we have no idea it's form. Because you are a man, you are biased and make illusions to fit yourself. We all do that at first. Science must have falsifiability. Your passion must be in accordance. Reality is total. The cosmos has much wonder. It needs nothing from you. It needs only to be understood. Communication with your peers is learned.

Thanks Darwin. Also, all of those rocks have natural explanations, like deformation, which is a geological process that produces the vertical formations. Reality is way more interesting than fantasy.

You may be faceless but you are not mindless. The default defence of illusion is denial.

I would never condemn Mars to be a lifeless world. I would never suppress speculation. Visible evidence is strong. I believe this forum was the first to see surface water. At the time this was Impossible. Mars was both dry and void of organics. 10 years later we were right. This is, however, a natural event.
