Thanks Winston. The English sensational press was comparing it to Stonehenge, but it must be on a much smaller scale. Also I wonder why it took them so long to notice something from Sol 528?

There seems to be a self imposed scientific embargo on discussing anything related to putative stromatolites on Mars, even while mildly covert NASA funded research is ongoing. Thus, no reputable scientist is going out on a limb to discuss the matter and therefore there is no information passed on for informed for the popular press to feed on.

If serious discussion about the possibility of widespread occurrence of martian stromatolites, visually indistinguishable from our examples on Earth, takes root it is not far fetched to see how the Space program would be significantly and perhaps prematurely impacted.

My book "The living rocks of Mars" discusses this matter and gives many examples and comparisons of earth microbialites and their putative analogues on Mars.

Some more interesting images from sol 1732.

Note the blue "pustules" which are probably thought of as tektites by the scientific establishment. Randomly scattered on the eroded surfaces of the rock only

There are several other examples from sol 1732 that I've processed to maximally highlight the blueish specks.

re. your reply #191. I think Its the shadow of a mast camera.

re. your reply #190. I processed several of them last night. Below is the one in your image processed in Gimp, Auto white balanced and sharpened.

Note the very strange excresences seem to be non-randomly dotted on the rock surface. I think that there might be some biology involved, even that they might be martian microbialite pinnacles.

Here's a very interesting image from sol 1688.

It is a pano from 2 reconstructed bayer mastcam grey scale images. The main feature is the large vein with green inclusions / colourations.

I wonder if they would let Curi go back and take some MAHLI closeups of the sol 1688 rock in my reply 195 above. It might pay huge dividends!

But then, seeing that they have only just released that image 45 days after it was taken, perhaps they have already done that.

Yes, certamente; of course.
The Bassanite in particular is very interesting as due to unique planetary conditions it is far more common and stable on Mars than on Earth. The identification of Bassinite and the context of where it is found provide clues to the paleoclimate and paleogeothermal history of the planet.
