This image posted on UMSF could get lost, but let's look at reality. First it is elevated above the matrix and is more accessible to thermal deviation in the diurnal profiles.

This would be and visually is a meso environment. In other words it is lifted up and get warmer and is subject to frost melt.

Important information seems to just 'run downhill' after initial observations in various semi-banned topics concerning Mars, and other science subjects.
