Sol 3318 ( May 25, 2013 ) 3D of large blueberries in Botany Bay:

with location links.

Some of the blueberries have a clear central line dividing the berry into two hemispheres - and some have split evenly. What kind of concretion does that?

The large berries have a rough surface and the smaller berries have a shiny, smooth surface.

Sol 3330 ( Jun 6, 2013 ) Hazcam 3D of IDD arm shadow on Knobby's Head:

The plan today ( sol 3332 ) is MI's of the soil of Knobby's Head.

This kind'a surprised me, but looking closer at the veins and patterned ground and at the aerial view of Knobby's Head lead me to an interesting speculation: Was there a flow ( or flows ) of water from the head - and Sutherland Point?

I think I "see" the benches surrounding these features and the Capes as very late features ( last few million years? ) created by snow melt.

There also appears to be a buried "channel" running to the south from Knobby's Head that is much older - but probably snow melt related at an earlier time.

Sol 3332 ( Jun 8, 2013 ) EDF ( Extended Depth of Field ) MI closeup of soil at Knobby's Head:

with location links.

I did all this extra work to try to see the peculiar cylinderical projection on the bottom center right.

I hope there was an offsetting 3D image done to confirm the peculiar shape.

Can you see it?

Sol 3333 ( Jun 9, 2013 ) panorama in next drive direction on Knobby's Head:

I don't know if the western side is as steep as it appears - or an autostitch processing artifact.

The guestimated sol 3333 position:

Sol 3311 ( May 18, 2013 ) false color 3D clast survey:

I always enjoy the challenge of creating images like this from images like this:

Anyway, a "clast survey" image has been done at every stop on the Solander Trek and as they become available I am processing them and adding them to Flickr with a "clast survey" tag.

Waiting for the results of today's drive ( sol 3335 ).

Sol 3335 ( Jun 11, 2013 ) panorama ( HD format ) in next drive direction on Knobby's Head:

with map location link.

Looks like Oppy is headed to the "bathtub ring" about 70 meters SW.

Sol 3335 (Jun 11, 2013 ) panorama ( right eye ) of Knobby's Head:

waiting for all the left eye filters to be down-linked before doing the left eye false color panorama.

Today's drive ( sol 3337 ) should be happening as I type.

Sol 3329 ( Jun 5, 2013 ) montage of Knobby's Head soil:

The disturbed soil seems quite red.

Notice the veins of yellow material ( gypsum? ). Lots and lots of water - at one time??

Sol 3335 ( Jun 11, 2013 ) panorama of Knobby's Head ( before drive ) :

Doesn't look like the sol 3337 drive was done. Communication miss?

Today's drive ( sol 3339 ) should be happening as I type.

Sol 3339 ( Jun 16, 2013 ) 3D in next drive direction on Knobby's Head:

with this guestimated position:

BTW, the navcam 3D was taken at 0:52:34 UTC - about 4 hours ago - on Mars! That never gets old.

It is the afternoon of sol 3341 and no drives -- or planned images -- since sol 3339. The problem may be yet another Recovery from Another Flash-Related Reset.

This is not good. Maybe time to reformat the flash memory?

Sol 3339 ( Jun 15, 2013 ) 3D of "Knobbi" on Knobby's Head:

This was taken mid-drive, so Oppy might have zig-zagged eastward rather than westward to get this shot. The official route map will tell the tale.

Today ( sol 3342 ) is a driving day and the drive should just be starting as I type.

Sol 3342 ( Jun 19, 2013 ) in next drive direction (???) on Knobby's Head:

with link to guestimated map location after 60 meter drive SSE.

Perhaps there is some interest in the 15 meter crater about 50 meters ahead.

Sol 3335 ( Jun 11, 2013 ) infrared / visible enhanced difference false color 3D detail of soil in rover track on Knobby's Head:

Call it geology or call it biology - but whatever it is, the complexity of the soil is fascinating - especially the multicolored rods of diffent minerals.

Where is a soil guy when you need him?

Sol 3345 (Jun 22, 2013 ) 270 degree panorama of Knobby's Head:

Today ( sol 3346 ) is a driving day and Oppy should be near the southern edge of Knobby's Head after the drive.

Here is an animation comparing my guestimates with the actual drives on Knobby's head:

My best guestimates were when three or more Navcam 3D pairs and at least one Pancam 3D pair were available for parallax measurements.

And finally, just a "pretty picture" from sol 3342 ( Jun 19, 2013 ):

I don't think we shall pass this way again.

Yep. That was the sentiment.

Fred, I have restored your reply 58 comment as you wrote it - and deleted our exchange after this one.

The exchange didn't get us one micrometer closer to Solander Point.
