3 Questions from Curiosity

In this Curiosity image see the following:
1. the small white spotted rock under the ledge-fossils?
2. that black streak in the middle of the rock at right-volcanism debris some 500 million years ago?
3. what could have snapped that chuck of rock off its parent rock-looks recent for there is no red dust on its exposed face?

You can see that it was probably already cracked as the dust-print is present at the right of the broken surface.

1(*) rate of dust-print growth.
2*) angular velocity or pressure on impact
3) the foremost point is the end of a triangle
4.shadow enforces drift angle

I think this cracked stone could be a result from temperature changes as well.

The white "artifical features" observed in many occasions around is for sure from the lander, yes that is for sure the official explanation of all this, as this landscape officially contains only dull Martian rock with the correct "Martian" color. I don't think so.

I'm wondering about how big is the distance from the lander this white "lander debris" can be spread around?

I think the freeze-thaw cycle has a lot to do with it. Looks like a lot of ice wedges about this part of Mars.

I believe it has been established that temperatures have risen above freezing during the daylight hours only to drop drastically at night.

I tend to agree that there is freeze thaw action all over Mars...we saw it years ago with Oppy and Spirit. However, I was considering a rock tumble that would have cracked this piece off the mother stone, but since I see no tumbling trail in the lower sand elevation we can put that idea to bed.

This is a riverbed alright, you can see it in these overhanging rocks that were at the top or edge of a flowing river and the sandy residue has now replaced that water, albeit many millions of years ago. Look at all the images from Curiosity and you can spot these overhangs easily. The rocks are carved out underneath just like Earth rocks in a riverbed. Fish hide there!!!!!
