Me too!
Its a bit troubling that we have not heard anymore from his family.
Hort, do you have any of his coordinates to get a message to him?

Unfortunately, I have no way to contact Ben. I have e-mailed Mark to see if he has a way to contact him.
In my case I asked my son to post a message so maybe Ben will do the same. |

SHIT shit shit>>>h...that does not sound good at all.
We should have a repository of our addresses somewhere on this site. Trouble is, do our spouses and/or friends know we are in here on the MRB.

Would Serpens or Bill know his last name so we can spot his address somewhere in the USA?
Henry, disappeared years ago and not a word since.

Mark did some sleuthing ( most likely based on IP addresses of his post ) and found a phone number of a person that is most likely Ben. It is a west coast number and I will phone it this afternoon.
I did an obit search using his name and didn't find a match within this year so I think he is still with us. |

It is my sad duty to report that Ben Lee Short's wife called me to report that Ben died August 22 from pancreatitis. He was 80.
She said there was no obituary because she didn't know how to summarize his many accomplishments in his life. He was buried at sea from his beloved boat.
He will be missed. |

Fair-minded and generous with his time. He did his best to express his geological insights on the various things we observed. |

I propose that we name the jam and bread structures at the current location as "Ben's formation".

I am sure we will see more rocks of this type as Oppy wanders around the rim of Endeavour.
Other ideas? |

shit ...shit shit...no one should die...why can't we just live! ...and we're trying to find 'life' on anther planet? Hell, real life is right here on Earth and then it vanishes.
Thanks 'h' for finding out about Ben. We should leave no one behind. I liked him and his open mind for easy conversation of understanding geology. Seems he travelled quite a bit and was respected by Serpens and Bill.
Thanks Ben for I will miss your insightful geologic mind.

I'm so sorry to hear this, sympathies and condolences to those who know him and of him.
My understanding is the big announcement will be on the 5th of December at the AGU meeting. Unless this is a null result you all should prepare for greatness. It's possible that organics could be widespread from impacts, but looking at the all of the hallucigenia and the psychedelia in the soil under the dune armor, one can only speculate what is going on here. It's a shame that Ben won't be around to temper those speculations. |

RIP Ben - you will be missed.
I agree with Hortons idea of naming the latest most interesting formation type Oppy stumbled across after him - "Ben's formation" |
