Welcome to the Mars Rover Blog

I am sorry if some of you found my comments about Doug to be somewhat over the top. But sometimes it is necessary to speak up. The fact that he has followed his ex members to this site to continue his denigration is really in bad taste. He cannot control what is discussed on this site and that drives him up the wall.
Some of you may remember when the Rovers landed and this site was launched. There was a contributor called "MarsGirl". I loved to read her posts. She saw artifacts and skeletons everywhere the rover looked. She was scorned by some but she was genuinely excited about the mission. She would have lasted about 1 second on the other site. And they would have been the worse for not letting her contribute in her own way. |

Much thanks, FMR.
Well - I'll keep an eye on your forum. I hope everything goes well here.
Just a few bugs to point out:
1. Sometimes I can't see posted messages.
2. When I hit "Post" button the website loads for a long time.

Dear Woodwall,
As I told you, I'm conservative. When I look on an image of Spirit and Oppy, I see just rocks and soil. I've been trained to be a scientist. There's no other way.
What would happen if I saw a girl who sees artifacts and skeletons? I will probably get annoyed. But I feel I'll keep it to myself.
Because there's something above refuting crazy theories. There's the exploratory spirit. This is the spirit that makes us exploring. This is a feeling that shouldn't be destroyed.
And yes, there are many so called space enthusiasts who are aiming this - to kill this exploratory spirit. I have to admit I've done this before. People have come across me and have asked me about UFO, SETI. And i've replied : "Don't bother me with such nonsense, you're not a scientist, there aren't any flying saucers and you are unworthy even to discuss such issues"...
What a fool I've been! Yes, I don't believe in UFO, Flying saucers, astrology, moon hoax theories. But nobody has the right to hurt the feelings of other people, especially if their disinformation or ignorance can be corrected. It's our destiny to teach others what's real science and to inspire the new explorers. |

...WOW...
Looks like a whole new 'Rover' has just landed in our midst?
Stay awhile and greatly read and enjoy the past posts and contribute to the 'Biology' section, or any other section for that matter.
We would certainly like to understand your take on the Mars Rover Blog.
Welcome and good luck.

LOOK! I got right!
http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/index.php?showtopic=6269&st=75
---For the January attempts, Odyssey was only listening and not hailing.
Odyssey will hail Phoenix during the February and March campaigns.-----
And one more message:
---Chad Edwards, who led the January listening campaign, confirms: "Phoenix's fault mode would have it transmit to any overhead orbiters - without needing to be hailed - during portions of each 2 hr wake-up session (in between 19 hr hibernation periods). We do not need to hail Phoenix to trigger that behavior."---
So yes... My post stated the same thing ("Excuse me, you may be wrong. Oddy just listens this time"), but it got culled by Douglas Ellison. Moreover, he accused me of being rude.
Douglas Ellison then allowed these two comments to co-exist. What a hypocricy. |

I always knew about Lazarus, Phoenix and Oddy. Better luck next month, though I'm not holding my breath.
As for the subject of interest - I've had enough of the so called "impressive high level" of a source which I thought was credible |

A comment or two if you will.
1.USMF is as close to REAL Science as we are going to get.
2.There is around a thousand times the activity daily at USMF,ask your self why.
3.Rarely if ever do post's go un-answered on USMF
4.I do not belong to USMF because I know my temprmental nature.
5.Every single one of you had better thank his lucky stars,USMF exists.
6.No,we can not all get along.
7.Thereby the necessity of this forum.
I will not knowingly slander, intentionally any member of ANY forum.
8.I will not post on this subject again.
9.I enjoy BOTH groups.
We are about Mars,a science fiction dream from youth,is being un-folded daily by REAL
ACTUAL EVENTS from another PLANET.
10.Sober up,all of us.View this as what it is.A miracle of devotion, technology, billions of dollars spent and entire lives spent in study for this moment.
a pretty good link to what is "actually happening in a completely ALIEN world. There are very, very smart, scientific method minded
people on BOTH FORUMS.To loose even one member is to loose a thought that might have
made someones day.
END.
Respectfully to ALL,
Joe in Texas
now how about them Saints tomorrow, and as I have said before many times "we will drink no wine before its time" any one thirsty?

Well, looks like I have to apologize to Doug. He really didn't get my e-mail. I just got a mailer-daemon message:

I've asked you for a complete removal of my account - it's just suspended now. There's some personal information like a photo of me, plus contact info and I don't longer wish to be on your website.
Thank you in advance.

So yes. He was right he didn't got a message from me. Sorry for this specific case |

I am not a Scientist but will voice my opinions and post to my hearts content. What a storm in a tea cup, it is quite clear on the Phoenix site what efforts are being made to see if she will wake up.
It is absolute rubbish to say only Scientists should post and talk about all things about Space Exploration. The Phoenix situation is about engineering challenges not biology, she won't wake up, battery is dead and the wiring will have perished.
Sir Patrick Moore is an amateur astromomer and not a qualified scientist only has half completed a degree in Geology as he had to go to War but despite this has written 100's of books on space, stars, planets and has hosted the longest running TV series in the history of broadcasting, The Sky at Night
Scientists often get it wrong sometimes very wrong, they do not speak freely as they are frightened what others may think so really not much use coming here.
Projects such as Galaxy Zoo rely on amatuers and has produced some great results, most comets are discovered by amatuers.
How do you know UFO's don't exist? Why would the States set up the Majestic 12? Have you read documents released under the freedom of information act? Area 51 exists take your own private tour with Google Earth. It was nearly 7 years into operational service before the USAF unveiled the F117A Stealth Fighter to the World, why and how would we know if UFO's do or do not exist, not even the US President has access to such things.
I am a member of UMSF also but find this site more fun and more expressive, join in but relax a bit man. |

Zv; Welcome to Mars Rover Blog and put the UMSF matter behind you. There is room for both blogs. I think that you can contribute greatly to this blog, somewhat as Ben does, as a respected Professor Emeritus.
It would be nice if you would post on some other topics.

Thanks for the compliment Winston.
I was working on a PhD to become a Professor but got a great offer to work as an exploration geologist and never went back .
I agree entirely with your comments on the blogs and think it is great to have a variety of opinions.
That applies to you too Dana!!

A cue? For me?
Could I circumvent the routine topic here to include my name in the mix for a direct attempt to enliven and 'wake up' Doug in this entrenchment of social groups?
I tried to register at the UMSF on two occasions, and found never a response was forthcoming in the past year or two. I had registered successfully about two to three years past, and I vaguely remember posting once perhaps. After I returned, I found no member register in my name, and no responses when trying to get confirmed registration. As a person with some opinion, and no claim of any particular technical expertise, I might give Doug a nod at whatever unpublished denial may exist in the member stature of the contributors list, and my requests which seemed unanswered and not clearly stated.
Perhaps Doug could add a comment or policy decision here to give some knowledge to me about my status there at UMSF.
-----------
Doug, can I register currently, and will restrained and proper conduct be permitted in the topics if I make additional requests for member entry into the 'other' forum, UMSF?
-----------
A variety of critical comment is always more informative and better for the science of communication when it can be maintained well.
Pleased to see any new contributors here who seek both consort and critique of topics and comments.
Informational criticism always welcomed here!!
And here, to congratulate Doug on the efforts to maintain a blog or forum which has been a success, as the work is an endeavor of great time and devotion. I never expect to agree with anyone on most all items of interest, as science is detailed in that method. |

Dana>>>
As 1 of your peers of many here in this blog I appeal to you to refrain from asking anyone to give to you any penance as retribution to be on their blog. I forbid you from continuing this action.
You, as independent and thought provoking individual for the past 6 years to all of us will not dismiss this lightly.
Your knowledge and forthright abstract yet analytical thinking as a profound good-will thought provoking individual we admire by all here and no place else, regardless of what is said continue to resolve your mental desires for the science truth.
Do not disappoint us and throw us out!
I remain your good friend...

Stocking up on canned food and staples, until I decipher the latest news from the front. Thanks. I seldom log in to my many registered group associations, and have neglected most the past couple years. Somewhere the cup is full, and hopefully not more.
Hope Zvezdichko is finding a presence here with some new topics. |
