Personal attacks

I thought I would start this thread just to bring up a couple things.
Since I have been posting here on the forum I have had more attempts at sending my computers viruses then any time in my personal history on the internet.
This may just be a coincidence but I have the feeling it is not and I don't believe I am the only one.
At one time something invaded my mail utility and was caught by Hotmail as my own computer attemted to resend something to Mark Carey and I had nothing to do with it.
Out of all of the hundreds of email address I have stored, why would it choose only his address?
This is real terrorism and is not at all a joke. I keep my Virus softwear up to date and I will not open an email from someone I do not know especially if it has an attachment and I advise all others here to do the same.
Has anyone else had similar things happen to them?

This is probably the number one reason why I do not like to give away my email address over the Internet.

richard, when you post your e-mail address here, a whole world can access it. There are lots of viruses and worms on the loose right now -- they will use these addresses to spread, and spammers use it to spam you.

Most current viruses also spoof the sender so that the e-mail appears to come from someone else.

I'd recommend running an online virus scan just in case you are infected - http://housecall.antivirus.com

That's the reason why I'll never post here with my real e-mail address.

I have protected myself for the most part and I am leaving my address available for any who want to contact me personally.
I have had many interactions with good people from here. The subject of mars fasinates me and I want to interact any way I can. I back up all of my files and can refortmat at any given notice. I also have more than one computer.

I just want to say that I have had 2 attempts today alone.
the last one said in the body of the email
"No virus found"
Hotmail nailed it again!

Richard,

If you don't have it already, I would also recommend using a free software firewall program called ZoneAlarm.

Richard,

I have friend who has given me excellent advice on "reverse engineering" issues in the past. He tells me, the really good guys who are determined can get around most of the normal road blocks, but the average computer whiz is unlikely to get around what's currently available on the market to protect you.

My advice, read, read, read, and study for yourself what the real danger is, as overall it's probably not what you're thinking. I get attacked all the time, but most of it is just normal Internet crap that everyone deals with. There are always folks trying to use my pc for their own business. The Internet might as well be called "hijack heaven."

I monitor my traffic pretty close, and I have seen a pick up as a result of interfacing with the Mars forum, but it's nothing that I'm overly worried about. You can worry yourself sick, or you can have fun and make it a war game, as necessary.

The right attitude is to protect yourself adequately, and then if someone is good enough to get into your system, they've earned the right to look around. Wink

Regarding the E-mail issues ... there are ways to protect yourself which are adequate and inexpensive. I've been truly impressed with my spam protection lately. It's so good that part of the time it won't let the mail I want through.

It is curious to me that anyone would care to attack you specifically with respect to the Mars blog. To me, that represents clear motive. If you have time, e-mail me what happened to you. Believe me, we can play sick 'em too.

I don't think it is posting on this site that has caused the problem; it seems to me that the last few weeks have seen some of the most intense virus attacks in years on my university network, and I would bet that no one else on my campus has posted at this site (and I'm not using a university address).
