I would like to take this opportunity to formally apologize for any and all inappropriate behavior over the years on this forum. I have gotten professional help and with a lot of therapy may be able to contribute in a more socially acceptable way.
The problem with mind altering substance of any kind is that they may give you a keen perspective but in the end tolerance will produce delusions.
I hope I will be able to contribute again soon, but at this time it will be limited. Keep posting the images Hort.

I was hoping your silence was temporary. In my location, I've been down as a result of building/construction work, and a process of moving a hardware collection to storage. Local issues and noise slows us all down at times. Good to hear you are healthy and ambitious.
I set up an email account at a provider of 5GB storage, and you might try the service with an account. I can always receive images or notices there, and can keep the news alive pending a return. Feel free to write when you need something. The polar fans and spiders, need a careful eye and attention from someone dedicated.

Fred. Here's one for you to spend time with. Can you see the clustered secondaries around the small well shaped crater at the bottom of the primary crater? The secondaries, and the smaller crater, are obviously later than the large main crater. They are well preserved, despite the massive amount of ravine/gully formation all along the walls and the paths of the rafted mounds of impact debris which dominate the scene here.
Also the upper image area ravines at places appear and disappear, then reappear, with little disturbance of the crater wall debris slopes in between sections of gullies. The gullies formed not as a result of surface flows, but as a result of subsurface movements and subsidence, not connected with any landslides or rolling free movement of debris particulates, in some cases here. You and I both know that is probably not a solids motion path, but a possible subsurface liquid/gas path, which is actively very distinguished from surface slides and avalanche conditions.
The rafted debris mounds are consolidated and appear fairly strong and intact. They are moved by a subsurface lessening of friction along the crater base by some mode.
Liquefaction, or content type of particulates, or, the small size/shape of the particulates in formation of the crater bowl?
Possibly the crater formation resulted in a late stage outgassing at the crater bowl, giving a degree of liquefaction support to the large, heavy, mounds? Dry flows or liquid below the surface to cause this movement, with the small crater and secondary assembly intact as seen, a well preserved later formation timing. Could such a small crater cause the scene of gullies and rafted mounds? It appears the gullies and mound movement are not a product of the one small crater, but an older process of lessened friction along a subsurface crater floor.
One of the most recent releases in the 'ESP' extended session of HiRISE.

Hope to hear from you soon. |

Thanks for the kind words Dana and what an image to ponder. I think we can rule out a dry slide. This is a good pdf about sub-surface water. We know its there. One day those who saw it long ago may be off their medication.

Good luck and best wishes: however tough life gets I promise that it's easier than dealing with the effects of long term substance abuse. Well done for getting help, and you have definately got cojones! |
