Long time since I have listened to The Machine I love PF and Saturn V rockets I have nearly finished reading Lost Moon by Jim Lovell and Jeffery Kluger wow those rockets and spaceships were amazingly complex and all those involved brave and daring. Your Dad was part of one of the greatest pieces of history in the 20th Century, they just don't make 'em like that anymore.

John>>

Thanks for the memories. Wife and I saw the Saturn V moon launch in July '69. We stayed in Titusville with Paul and Virginia Schmitt and their 2 children. He was an engineer who worked on the 3rd stage rocket at the Cape. Out of the whole week we were there I saw him for about 3 hours and had some great discussions about the future of space flight. Of course Werner Von Braun was his bossman same as your good father.

Too much!

Thanks fellas. I wonder if there will EVER be a rocket so large, powerful and magnificent. I have quite a pile of astronaut books. Reading the accounts of those who witnessed launches, I gather Saturn launches were experiences to behold. One could FEEL them from the feet up, before they could be heard. When the shock wave hit you in the chest, your ears were assaulted with thunder. The only thing I could imagine being more awesome would be to be one of the three souls riding atop the stack. I find it hard to believe these men are now elderly or dead. It seems like yesterday. To the kids today, this is simply history. Stuff that happened before they were born. It means so little to them, just a test question. I feel sorry that they could not have been around in those days.
